Counter by Counter – Loxodon Battle Priest Joins MTG Tarkir: Dragonstorm

We’re back at it again with another card preview for Magic: The Gathering (MTG) and this time, we have Loxodon Battle Priest, a solid white creature that offers consistent counter support for your battlefield presence in the upcoming set, Tarkir: Dragonstorm.

Card Details:

Card Name: Loxodon Battle Priest

Cost: 4W

Creature: Elephant Cleric

Card Text: At the beginning of combat on your turn, put a +1/+1 counter on another target creature you control.

This five mana creature provides steady value by distributing +1/+1 counters at the beginning of each combat phase on your turn, enabling gradual battlefield growth for your creatures.

While the Battle Priest will probably not see significant play in competitive Constructed formats due to its 5-mana cost and relatively slow value generation, it does have potential in Commander decks, particularly those focused on +1/+1 counter strategies or proliferate mechanics. 

Tarkir: Dragonstorm is the 104th Magic expansion and is scheduled for release on April 11, 2025. The set concludes the Dragonstorm Arc, depicting a plane where dragons pour through dragonstorms across Tarkir.
