Rumours are floating around regarding a mobile version of Warframe. The game is already available on PC and consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. The last of these platforms has been argued to possibly be a good basis for the mobile version of Warframe. The rumours spring from an annual report from Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited, the parent company of developer Digital Extremes.
As highlighted by GameRant, the possibility is there according to Leyou chairman Xu Yiran’s statement:
“I have spoken publicly on occasions about the Group’s strategy of transforming successful PC or console games into mobile version.”
The focus remains on PC and console, but it cannot be denied that they are also looking into tapping the vast revenue potential the mobile market holds. As of now, the game itself does have a mobile application that functions as a companion app. Players can receive notifications and alerts, view their rank, deploy drones and manage companions through the app, not play the full game.
For now, Warframe is in development for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Whether or not a mobile version will follow after that, no one can say for sure. The annual report did mention “lack of exposure” and “decreasing player base” as problems for 2019, so who knows if they’d work on a mobile port concurrently with the next-gen home console versions.
