Convergent Distribution, the company that last year started distributing Nintendo products in Singapore has also secured distribution rights for the publisher in Malaysia.
According to Convergent Distribution Regional Product Manager Edwin Teoh , Convergent will be setting up Nintendo Red shelves in major outlets like Best Denki, Popular as well as Courts Malaysia.
They will also be working with Modern retailers such as Thundermatch to sell on their platforms as well, and will include first-party games, accessories on top of the Nintendo Switch consoles.
The plan is to begin distribution in the Klang Valley, with a target of nationwide distribution by the end of Q4 2023.
That being said, Teoh says we can expect to see Nintendo Red shelves by the end of September.

By working with more general retailers, Teoh says the goal is to reach a wider audience.
“Nintendo is not just a gaming device, but a home entertainment for the general population”, he says.
The other benefit, according to Teoh, is also price stability, allowing users to get the console at a price regardless of the location.
Convergent won’t just be handling physical distribution in Malaysia, however- just like their operation in Singapore, the distributor will also be managing the official Nintendo storefronts on Lazada and Shopee.
They’ve also confirmed that any official promotions from Nintendo will also be applicable to all Convergent-affiliated outlets, including the online stores.
In addition, the distributor will also be setting up the Authorized Nintendo Customer Service Center in Malaysia, allowing you to have faulty Nintendo Switch units under warranty replaced without needing to send it overseas.
Devices distributed by Convergent will also feature a 1-year warranty, with units covered by the Convergent Distribution warranty featuring MYS in their serial number.
This marks the second distributor for the Nintendo Switch to enter Malaysia, with Maxsoft also distributing it in the country.
