Publisher Konami Digital Entertainment and developer WayForward have unveiled the latest entry in the classic run n’ gun series, Contra: Operation Galuga.
As revealed during the recent Nintendo Direct, Contra: Operation Galuga is scheduled to release on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam digitally in early 2024, with a physical edition for consoles planned.
Contra: Operation Galuga is a reimagination of the original 1980s Contra games on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and arcade cabinets, returning to the series’ classic roots.
Developed by WayForward, the game will feature new stages from the jungle environment to the enemy military base, as well as new enemies, mechanics, an updated power-up system, and modernized visuals and audio.
In the game, elite Contra commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean return and redeployed into battle against the Red Falcon terrorist organization, which has transformed the once-peaceful Galuga Island into a brutal warzone.
Fans can engage in the game in multiplayer with up to 2 players for Story Mode co-op and up to 4 people for the Arcade Mode.
Additionally, iconic weapons such as the spread shot, laser, and homing missiles will be returning, and players can stack 2 firearms of the same type for enhanced firepower while surplus guns can be sacrificed for Overload abilities.
Moreover, Contra: Operation Galuga features 3 difficulty settings with plenty of additional challenge options, offering both veterans and newcomers alike to tweak the game to their liking.
Limited Run Games will be publishing both the physical standard and collector’s editions of the game on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
