Firewalk Studios has announced the imminent closure of their multiplayer hero shooter, Concord, less than two weeks after its launch. Firewalk Studios will take the game offline on September 6, 2024, following a bad reception and underwhelming player numbers.
Concord, which debuted on August 23 for PlayStation 5 and PC, struggled to gain traction in the competitive hero shooter market. Reports suggest the game sold fewer than 25,000 copies, with a peak concurrent player count of just 697 on Steam.
Ryan Ellis, Game Director at Firewalk Studios, addressed the situation in a PlayStation blog post. He acknowledged that while certain aspects of the game resonated with players, others “didn’t land the way we’d intended.” As a result, the studio has decided to cease sales immediately and offer full refunds to all purchasers.
Refund processes will vary depending on where you purchased the game. PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct buyers will receive automatic refunds to their original payment method, though these may take 30-60 days to appear on bank statements. If your original payment source is unavailable, Sony will refund the purchase amount to your PSN wallet instead.
Steam and Epic Games Store will process refunds over the coming days and send direct notifications to affected users. Firewalk Studios advises customers who bought physical copies from other retailers to follow the refund procedures specific to those stores.
The studio plans to “explore options” for the game’s future, including potential strategies to better reach their target audience. This statement has led players and industry observers to speculate about a possible shift to a free-to-play model, though Firewalk Studios has not confirmed any concrete plans.
