After a two-year hiatus, Comic Fiesta 2022 returns to Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Malaysia’s largest and longest-running animation, comics and game convention will be hosting over 65,000 visitors for the 17 – 18 December weekend. Featuring over 500 creative booth spaces with a variety of self-made / fan merchandise for sale, it’s the largest local creative market to date too.
“After two years of the pandemic, we’ve noticed a huge spike in interest in ACG-related events. With Comic Fiesta’s scale and reach, we’ve looked to give our visitors the best way to end the year as ACG fans by introducing a slew of local and international acts, including song artistes, comic artists, cosplayers and even VTubers.”
Lim Chin Hwa, Comic Fiesta, Comic Fiesta Event Director
2022 also marks the 40th anniversary of the Look East Policy, a joint-collaboration with the government of Japan. As such, Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur and Comic Fiesta collaborated to invite Konomi Suzuki (No Game No Life, Re:Zero, Sakurasou Pet no Kanojo and So I’m A Spider, So What?) to perform for fans.
Additionally, Comic Fiesta 2022 has invited VTuber guests, acknowledging its meteoric rise in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hololive EN’s Takanashi Kiara and Emilia Watson, alongside Hololive ID Kobo Kanaeru and Airani Iofifteen, as well as MyHoloTV’s Liliana Vampaia and Virion Kisei will be present.
Last but not least, the event seeks to highlight professional creative content from Malaysians, featuring Q&A events with local voice actors such as Su Ling Chan (Boboiboy, No Straight Roads), “Uncle” Ali Imran (No Straight Roads) and Azman Zulkiply (Ejen Ali, Boboiboy The Movie, Chinatown Detective Agency) as well as well-known comic artists including Ernest Ng (Bro, Don’t Like That La Bro, Covidball-Z), Nixon Siow (Like That Also Can Ah?, Crazy Rich Guy) and Cheeming Boey (When I Was A Kid). Kel Win Tan of MyHoloTV, as well as XFate, the artist behind Liliana Vampaia’s character design will be having a panel on building a VTuber agency in Malaysia, so don’t miss out.
