We’re back with another preview for Magic: The Gathering, this time taking a look at Combat Thresher in MtG: The Brother’s War.
Following up the previous Dominaria United, Brother’s War sees more Constructs joining the fray, powerful Artifact Creatures you can use in almost any deck type.
Combat Thresher is a fairly powerful Artifact Creature, but it’s price doesn’t entirely add up- it’s a 7-cost colorless with 3./3, though it makes up for that cost with Double Strike- essentially being able to take down creatures with Toughness 6 or less.
On top of that summoning the creature also nets you a free card from your deck- a veritable bonus, especially if you’re going to run it in a commander deck with cards like Shorikai, The Genesis Engine to get even more cards out of your deck.
In fact, if you were just using it for its draw effect you could even summon it using its Prototype ability- this lets you pay a much lower summoning cost to cast it as a 1/1 creature- though all its effects are still intact.
While Double Strike isn’t as useful on a 1/1 creature a 3-cost creature that also nets you an extra card is a much more reasonable ask- this does cost White mana to use though, so you’ll wanna tech it into appropriately-colored decks.
Combat Thresher is an Uncommon Card coming to MtG Brother’s War, which you’ll be able to get at your local game stores starting November 18th, 2022.
