From Bandai Namco Entertainment, comes a collaborative effort with Shift to develop a new vampire themed Souls-like game, Code Vein. Heavily referenced from Dark Souls, they do have their specialty on putting the difficulty up high.
Code Vein is set in a world that the earth are invaded by the creatures called “The Lost”. “The Lost” are the basic form of the parasite. The origin of the parasite started when the humans were testing out the parasite. During the last official experimentation on a little girl, the subject went insane and killed the people within the lab itself. She is now named as the “The Red Queen”
And so, to defeat The Red Queen, a similar parasite was developed for the dead humans, reviving them to become a Revenant. All Revenant has an anti-body system which will prevent the parasite from controlling their body entirely. But these Revenants have an issue. If they’re do not consume some blood, they will enter Frenzy Mode, in which they will lose control of their human personality. If they are not rescued, they will become Lost, and become incurable.
There is an elite squad that defeated The Red Queen, naming themselves as “The Queenslayers”. With the defeat of The Red Queen before the start of the story, an impenetrable dome was created called Red Mist which surrounds the entire area of Vein and the areas are flowing a mysterious miasma that attracts Frenzy. Enough said, check the gameplay out!
In this game you play as a Revenant that is immune towards the miasma which leads you to be one of the main forces that humanity needs to win this war.
The controls are fairly simple. Like Dark Souls , you have a light attack, heavy attack, dodge/dash and your Revenant skill, but there is more. In this game you can switch around your class, called Blood Code, anytime you want. Each Blood Code has different Gifts or generically called skills and stats. Here’s a few that classes that I recalled from my playthrough:
- Berserker
- Fighter
- Hermes
- Caster
- Ranger
- Premetheus
And more…
There are also a partner system that you can utilize to help you through different scenarios. The NPC will assist you by giving you health when you’re down, combo with your attacks and also to assist you with your journey in different ways.
Another feature which is heavily inspired by Dark Souls is the Multiplayer system. You can fire a SOS and seek help from the online community. With all the variations that the game has in character creation, Blood code and weapon selections, let’s just say that it will be extremely rare to see someone who has an entirely same characteristics with you.
As a whole, we enjoyed, we raged and we conquer a lot of the difficulties in the game. It was so SATISFYING! Take a break and try it out! We hope that you would like the game as much as you like us.
The game is released for PS4, Xbox One and PC for all you gamers to choose which platform you want. If you tried the game already, be sure to comment down your thoughts of the game and tell us why!
