John Hight, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Warcraft franchise announced the return of Chris Metzen to the Warcraft team. His tweet reads as follows:
Citizens of Azeroth,
It is with great joy that I announce Chris Metzen has joined the Warcraft Leadership Team as Creative Advisor. Chris’s focus initially will be on World of Warcraft, then his work will expand to other projects across this growing franchise.
Chris was one of the original team members working on the Warcraft universe back when it began in 1994, and we are so happy to be reuniting him with the world he helped create.

Besides Warcraft, Chris Metzen also worked on the universes for Diablo and Starcraft. He had retired in 2016, later establishing Warchief Gaming – a “development studio and tabletop gaming club” – alongside Mike Gilmartin and Ryan Collins on 2020, prior to this.
There are numerous comments excited for his re-involvement in the franchise, celebrating the “return of the warchief”. Some fans are even beginning to wonder what the “expanded work” could be, making a mock-up of Henry Cavill as the Lich King Arthas in the hopes of a possible live action series.
Of course, we don’t have the details of the full extent of his involvement, but fans are certainly hyped. Stay tuned.
