Two Star Games is generating a lot of buzz with Choo Choo Charles, their new horror game about being relentlessly pursued by a killer train named Charles.
Having posted its first trailer over the weekend, fans have really dug into it- with its official trailer on YouTube crossing the 100k views mark while the tweet is sitting at 16.2k retweets.
So what is Choo Choo Charles? From the trailer, it’s one of those horror games a la Resident Evil Village and Slender where part of the core appeal is being chased by its iconic monster.
Only thing is the titular Charles is a train with spider legs and a face like an edgy Thomas The Tank Engine OC, with all the potential to put young children off of ever taking the railway.
Unlike Slender’s more aimless direction it looks like this game will have direction- you ride your own train around a small island, collecting parts to upgrade your train as you fend off Charles’ advances. Based on the game’s description, it sounds like it all leads up to one big showdown, where you’ll finally show Charles what happens to Not-Very-Useful-Engines.
We don’t know if the train will be constantly pursuing you, or if the game ever intends to give you breathers where you won’t have to deal with the pursuit of the vehicle that drove the industrial revolution.
Here’s the description from the game’s developers:
In Choo-Choo Charles you’re given the task of eradicating a monster known by the locals as “Charles”. Nobody knows where he came from, but they know why; to eat the flesh of puny humans. You have a small yellow train, with a map, mounted machine gun, and an exquisite collection of bobble-heads on the dashboard. You’ll use this train to get from place to place, while you complete missions for the townspeople, or loot scraps from around the island. Over time you’ll use your scraps to upgrade your train’s speed, armor, and damage. You’ll grow your arsenal, and (hopefully) become an unstoppable force, ready to take on the great and mighty Charles.
