An upcoming Chinese third-person shooter game heavily inspired by Splatoon (to the point where some might call it a clone or rip-off) has been making the rounds of BiliBili.
The developer of the game Luo Wei Cyberverse and Beijing River Map Games has announced the launch of a playable demo or “pioneer test” which players can sign up for on their BiliBili page. You can watch a trailer they’ve released for the game below:
The game currently does not have a name however the developers say that it will release for mobile devices and have an AR and VR version which will be included in the below. You can see footage of the AR version of the game here. The game will apparently have “10 hero updates and 10 level updates one after another soon”.
The game features the same gameplay loop you’d expect from Splatoon, where you play as a cute character dressed in urban streetwear covering the arena in paint while opposing players attempt to do the same. The game comes with an assortment of weapons including the paint equivalents of machine guns, grenades, and sniper rifles.
You further have the ability to travel quickly through the ink that you shoot, unlike Splatoon though, instead of turning into a Squid, in the game your character becomes a blob or slime-like creature. We should note that Splatoon 3 is actually very popular in China. It quickly became one of the most streamed games in the region last year even though it has yet to be officially released there.
There is currently no release date for the shooter game but more updates will likely come soon. It is very possible that despite first appearances it may have further gameplay details that set it apart from Splatoon and make it feel like less of a clone. Well, have to wait and see though.
