One Chinese game has decided to take advantage of the Diablo Immortal hype train by rebranding its game as a clone of the upcoming mobile RPG.
The Chinese App Store features a title listed as Dark of Immortal, and features images made in the style of Diablo Immortal and a logo evocative of Diablo Immortal’s app icon.
Interestingly enough the change is recent- the game was previously titled God of War, and has reviews from October of last year.
Here’s the description of the game, from the App Store:
“Dark of mmortality” (sic) is a 3D fantasy action mobile game.
Here, you will play the role of “the last half god in the world”, born in thousands of years of loyal guardianship, travel with your partners to save the mainland, and gradually explore the truth of “Nordic miracles”.
Here we hope to let you experience rich and high-quality game content through QTE action game.
Chinese game clones are a commonplace of the mobile market- while the gameplay itself is often its own, many titles on the app store will steal visuals from popular games to market their games.
Last month saw the same thing happen to Elden Ring, with a game claiming to be a mobile experience to emulate From Software’s widely successful RPG, but the actual game was a more Diablo-like experience.
Strangely enough 2018’s God of War is a popular game for being copied, with many games including the Elden Ring clone using visuals from the game in their marketing.
