Netflix will be getting Char’s Counterattack, among other classic Gundam movies as they head to the popular streaming platform.
According to Netflix, Char’s Counterattack will be available for streaming from June 18th, letting you catch up with the end of the rivalry between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable, which first started in the original Mobile Suit Gundam.
Speaking of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Netflix will also be streaming the trilogy of movies recapping the events of the series, including the now-iconic battle with Big Zam.
This isn’t the Gundam series’ debut on Netflix- Gundam Unicorn, the later entry of Gundam’s “Universal Century” timeline, has been available to stream on the platform for a while now. However for many people, this will be the first time they’d be able to catch one of the most iconic Gundam films on a legal platform, complete with English subs.
What Is The Universal Century
Universal Century is the mainline Gundam timeline, set in the titular Universal Century, a calendar marking human colonization of space. It starts in UC0079 with the events of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, following up Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, before ending Amuro and Char’s story with Char’s Counterattack.
The timeline itself doesn’t end there, though, as Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn picks up years later after Char’s Counterattack, showing the aftermath of the events of the movie.
