Having previously only soft-launched in Canada in September 2019, Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls ends service, according to its in-game announcement. The premium in-game currency of Gems can no longer be purchased, and the servers will shut down on 9 September 2020, 08:00 CEST.
The game did not reach territories outside of Canada for whatever reason, so this could be one of the reasons behind the closure. The game had a multiplayer function called Bounty Hunt, but players have reported horrendous matchmaking times. The game’s brief story is given as follows:
Many years have passed since the defeat of Count Dracula, and humanity has entered an age of peaceful prosperity.
Until one day, Genya Arikado receives a mysterious letter.
“The Grimoires have awoken, and the world is being consumed by darkness. I implore you, please come to our aid!”
Wary of what may be lying in wait before him, Genya Arikado ventures forth into the moonlit night.
If you really want to play a Castlevania game on mobile, Konami DID port Symphony of the Night, so you can purchase a full game instead. It’s unfortunate that Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls ends service so soon without making it to wider audiences, but that’s the nature of free to play, one supposes.
