Build Divide is a new multimedia project, receiving both an anime as well as a trading card game (TCG). The project was created by Homura Kawamoto (Kakegurui) as well as his younger brother Hikaru Mono.
The project will be getting its own anime, produced by Aniplex. It’s titled Build Dive -#00000 (Code Black)-, and releases October of this year as part of the autumn lineup of anime. The TCG is set to release within the same month.
We don’t know much about how Build Divide is going to work as a game- all we have to go off of is the anime’s teaser, which seems to show some sort of star-based scoring system. At first glance it seems similar to games like Duel Masters’ shield-based approach, though we don’t have any information confirming it.
The anime is set in the city of New Kyoto, where the new governing lord is decided by a card game tournament. The main character appears to have some sort of spirit following him around, although its unknown if that’s just his flagship card similar to YuGiOh!‘s Dark Magician .
The project being helmed by Kawamoto is a good sign for the anime, especially since Kakegurui’s whole appeal was built up hype over simple card games. The series spawned a manga, as well as an anime and a live-action drama, the latter two of which are currently available on Netflix.
Considering the more mass-appeal approach though, it’s unlikely that this story will feature Kakegurui’s signature overly-exaggerated borderline-horror face reactions and overt sexual overtones.
