Square Enix has put out a new trailer for Bravely Default II, showcasing new characters, job classes as well as the new area.
The new area is called Rimedhal, and is a snowy city full of devout followers of the Lord of Dragons. The area also introduces two new Asterisk users, bringing back classic Final Fantasy jobs to the game.
One of the new characters is Martha Pendragon, the holder of the Dragoon Asterisk. Her family are the defenders of the Serpent’s Grotto, where the Lord of Dragons is believed to dwell.
Defeating Martha will get you the Dragoon asterisk, allowing you to use the class. This class specializes in long spears, being able to do powerful jumping attacks for big damage.
Gladys Llewelyn is the holder of the Swordsmaster Asterisk, whose family looks to punish fairies with the Lord of Dragons’ judgement. She works for Chief Inquisitor Helio, looking to avenge her parents with her crusade.
Defeating Gladys gets you the Swordmaster Asterisk, which lets you use different stances for a variety of powerful attacks. You can also use powerful counters, giving you all sorts of tactical options.
Chief Inquisitor Helio is the holder of the Spiritmaster Asterisk, leading a quest to persecute Fairies with the Lord of Dragon’s judgement. He serves Archbishop Domenic, with characters like Gladys serving under him to this end.
You can get the Spiritmaster Asterisk off of Helio, which acts as this game’s variant of the Summoner class. According to Square Enix, you can use it to summon “ethereal beings” to cast status effects on groups of enemies.
Archbishop Domenic is the Archbishop of Rimedhal, acting as the will of the Lord of Dragons. His prayers are allegedly responsible for the warming of Rimedhal, though not much else is known about him.
Domenic is the holder of the Oracle Asterisk, which when used by your character will let you “Control space and time” via “Esoteric” abilities.
Glenn Brennan is the final new Asterisk holder Square Enix showed off, and he uses the Salve Maker Asterisk. According to Square he’s looking for an item to help his brother, who’s been grieving for seven days straight.
With the Salve Maker Asterisk, you can combine items to create deadly combinations. Considering how wild you could get with previous Bravely games, this looks like a great Job for the adventurous players.
Card Games
A common trope in big RPGs is the addition of some sort of card game, similar to Triple Triad in Final Fantasy 8 or Gwent in The Witcher. Bravely Default joins this list with Bind n Divide, a card game where you aim for control of a board against your opponent.
You’ll also have Job cards which will allow you to cast various abilities, allowing you to better control the board against your opponents.
Bravely Default II will be out February 26th, 2021.
