Borderlands 3 promises to be real big, and it’ll only get bigger after the main missions. It will be having a veritable wealth of end-game content with consistent post-launch support, so here are the details.
We’ve mentioned the Proving Grounds from Gamescom, along with the Circle of Slaughter arenas. True Vault Hunter mode will be returning, along with Guardian Rank, a retuned Badass Rank mechanic. Toss in Mayhem Mode where randomness changes gameplay, and you’ll always have something new to return to!
Guardian Rank comes after beating the campaign. Just like the Borderlands 2 Badass Ranks, Guardian Ranks will give incremental stat improvements, with a twist. You can get powerful buffs in addition to the smaller ones! You level up Guardian Rank with experience, which is the bar above your regular XP bar. Each bar gives a Guardian Token, to then spend on stats across three distinct trees. A Guardian Token gets you an option out of a random 6 stats with 2 from each tree. They are the following:
Enforcer
- Critical Damage
- Grenade Damage
- Gun Damage
- Gun Fire Rate
- Melee Damage
- Vehicle Damage
Survivor
- FFYL (Fight For Your Life) Duration
- FFYL Movement Speed
- Max Health
- Shield Capacity
- Shield Recharge Delay
- Shield Recharge Rate
Hunter
- Accuracy
- Action Skill Cooldown
- Luck (Rare Drop Rate)
- Recoil Reduction
- Reload Speed
Guardian Rewards get unlocked at various milestones across the trees. Get weapons, skins and passive buffs to show your commitment to Vault Hunting!
Mayhem Mode also unlocks after the campaign. Enable one of three difficulty levels – Mayhem 1, Mayhem 2 or Mayhem 3 – and buffs up enemy health, shields and armour. Of course, you’ll get rewarded in kind in cash, Eridium, experience and better loot chances. Get new Anointed gear that can buff Action Skills! Mayhem Mods will come into play, and you can check what’s in effect on the map screen. If you get into True Vault Hunter mode, you’ll have to clear that campaign first before getting Mayhem Mode.
Don’t forget to check out the various DLC planned for the game.
