With the world still reeling from a viral Cataclysm, Blizzard has replaced their annual convention with an online event, BlizzConline. The event is set for February 19-20th.
Blizzconline is a two-day online event that aims to recreate as much of the BlizzCon experience as possible. It will feature several events, such as:
- Cosplay Exhibition
- Cosplay Contest
- March of the Murlocs
- Digital Storytelling Contest
- Art Contest
- Talent Showcase
The community-focused events have some interesting quirks to them, particularly the Cosplay Exhibition. Fans can show off their pets in cosplay, a first for the convention. Blizzard will then show these photos on the BlizzConline livestream.
The Digital Storytelling Contest also harkens back to Blizzard’s roots, with fans being invited to create a short film based on Blizzard’s IPs. The top 3 winners will have their work showcased during the livestream as well.
March of the Murlocs is a time-honored Blizzcon tradition, whereby players dress up as the iconic Murlocs from World of Warcraft and march. As the Murlocs can’t really gather this year, the parade will be moved digitally. Fans can submit a short one-minute clip of them dressed as Murlocs and marching, to be shown during the livestream as well.
Despite the event starting in February, many of these events have submission deadlines on January 4th. You can read more about the event on the official blog. You can also find the rules and submission guidelines there.
