Blazblue Creator Toshimichi Mori Leaves Arc System Works

Blazblue series creator Toshimichi Mori has left Arc System Works, following speculation from fans over the past week.

In a tweet, Mori posted a statement thanking the company as well as their fans for their support over the years, though he didn’t give any reason for his departure.

“The many experiences I’ve had over the past 20 years since joining Arc System Works are the treasures of my life”, he says.

This comes after his name was unceremoniously removed from the Arc System Works Board of Directors earlier this week, leading many fans to speculate that the producer was going to leave the company.

As of this writing, Arc System Works has not issued an official statement on the matter.

While he neither confirmed nor denied the fate of the Blazblue series, Mori was quick to admit that this wasn’t good optics for the future of the fighting game series.

“I am leaving Arc System Works. I am sorry for the anxiety this may cause to Blazblue players in particular. I am truly sorry for this”, the statement reads.

This does put a damper on the momentum of the Blazblue series- while it hasn’t gotten a mainline entry since the release of Blazblue Centralfiction in 2015, Arc System Works has been revisiting the older games to improve their netcode alongside Blazblue Cross Tag Battle (A crossover fighter).

On top of that, the series has gotten several mobile spin offs, including the now-cancelled Blazblue Alternative Dark War as well as the yet-to-be-released Blazblue Chaos Effect.
