BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War opening movie showcased

Arc System Works and Linked Brain have just posted the opening movie for BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War, their “chain combo x novel RPG” for the Android and iOS platforms.

As previously reported, it looks like Blazblue Alternative: Darkwar is either a prequel or deals with time travel (not uncommon for Blazblue) as we see what looks to be past versions of characters like Relius Clover and Platinum The Trinity. Despite this, we also see present-day characters like Jin Kisaragi and Naoto Kurogane, who are all in the most recent Blazblue titles Central Fiction and Cross Tag Battle.

There’s also new characters, such as Ciel Suleur, who seemingly have no connection to the rest of the Blazblue cast. In an earlier trailer, she, Kazuma (who looks suspiciously like Hazama from mainline Blazblue) and Trinity are the only characters named.

BlazBlue Alternative: Dark War scheduled for a launch on 16 February 2021 in Japan as a free-to-play title with in-app purchases. No word if the game will be released internationally, but given the relative popularity of the BlazBlue franchise, we may be able to expect it to come out for the rest of the world.
