Team17 has shown off new details for Blasphemous 2, including the release window for their upcoming metroidvania.
In a new gameplay trailer, they confirmed that Blasphemous 2 would release some time in Late 2023 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5 as well as Xbox Series X|S.
The trailer also showed off plenty of new mechanics coming to the game, such as a bespoke air dash, as well as other skills like a teleport strike.
They also revealed that this time the Penitent One would not just be locked to using Mea Culpa, with the website confirming that you’d be able to use new weapons such as a massive flail, a greatsword as well as twin blades.
In fact, the trailer actually does not seem to feature the straight sword from the first game at all, though it’s not confirmed that the weapon would not show up somewhere in the game.
Each weapon also has its own special moves, such as a giant overarching spin with the hammer.
Despite the new tools though, it looks like Blasphemous 2 will be sticking to a lot of what made the original so beloved, with its strong Catholic imagery as well as souls-like bossfights with heavy reliance on parrying incoming attacks, considering all the weapons have one.
The original Blasphemous was a 2D metroidvania, following the Penitent One- an immortal soldier out to get to the center of the Miracle, which causes the guilt of everyone in the world to manifest and give them abilities.
