BLACK STELLA PTOLOMEA will be the latest attempt in trying to utilize the Black Stella project IP. This makes it the third time after the project’s initial cancellation, then into a game that subsequently got unceremoniously shuttered.
Prior to revealing its new name, the teaser video for BLACK STELLA PTOLOMEA seems to show it as a turn-based battle game with three party members having active skills and the usual fanfare in special abilities. There’s not much additional info beyond the teaser, but the title will be making an appearance at the upcoming Comiket 101 event.
This game was announced less than a week since its predecessor, BLACK STELLA INFERNO, got canned. INFERNO was a real time, tower defense game with a focus on multiplayer. Performance issues made it difficult to play at launch, with an assurance from the developers that they were looking into fixes. You can check out our impressions of the game here.
Last we know, PTOLOMEA is set for a Spring 2023 launch. They mostly only really need to repurpose the assets they already have as they’ve done before, with pretty much all the original production and creators’ credits intact, and Oguchi still in charge of character design. For reference, here’s the original staff list:
- Worldview Setting: Takaaki Suzuki (Girls und Panzer)
- Scenario: Fumiaki Maruto (Saekano), Tappei Nagatsuki (Re:Zero), Yoshiaki Inaba (Lugalgigam)
- Character Design: Oguchi
Will third time be the charm? Only time will tell. Further updates will be available through the official Twitter.
