The results for the 2024 Steam Awards are in, and Black Myth: Wukong stands out as the big winner, taking home Game of the Year, along with awards for Outstanding Story-Rich Game and Best Game You Suck At. After narrowly missing the GOTY title at The Game Awards 2024, the Steam community has solidified the game’s status as a modern classic.
This victory at the Steam Awards marks a “tale of redemption” following the disappointment of losing to Astro Bot for Game of the Year. Reflecting on that moment, Feng Ji, head of Game Science, told PC Gamer, “I must admit, there’s a sense of loss and regret. The games nominated this year were all exceptional, but honestly, I still can’t figure out what the criteria were for Game of the Year.”
With this Steam Awards win, Black Myth: Wukong has earned a well-deserved comeback, further securing its place in the hearts of players.
Other notable winners include Metro: Awakening, which claimed VR Game of the Year, and Elden Ring, which took home the Labor of Love award for its continued success with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. God of War: Ragnarok earned Best Game on Steam Deck, while Silent Hill 2 Remake received recognition for its Outstanding Visual Style which fans have praised Bloober Team for capturing the essence of what made the original a cult classic favourite.
Indie title Liar’s Bar, with its innovative gameplay mechanics centered around deception, won Most Innovative Gameplay, while Farming Simulator 25 earned the Sit Back and Relax award.
The Steam Awards stand out for their fan-driven voting process, where players choose the winners during the Steam Winter Sale. This year’s awards showcase a blend of blockbuster hits and niche gems, celebrating creativity and player engagement across gaming.
