Take control of one of the most iconic heroes with Black Myth: Wu Kong, an RPG based on the character from the epic, Journey to the West. Game Science, a Chinese developer, is developing the title.
The thirteen-minute gameplay trailer gives a huge glimpse into the world of the game, as well as the tools the developers want the player to have at their disposal. As this is based off of the legend of Sun Wu Kong, they want to incorporate many of his legendary abilities.
The combat looks particularly promising. Players will have to balance evading big attacks with managing large crowds of enemies, requiring attentiveness as well as aggression. The team at Game Science themselves have confessed to being big fans of action-RPGs, so there’s no surprise this would play like one.
The boss combat, meanwhile, plays more like a fight out of Monster Hunter. Bosses can move very frenetically, and it’s up to the player to plan their tactics around that.
Though they didn’t go into specifics, the developers said that they plan to release the game on all major consoles and PC. They also mentioned an interest in cloud-based gaming, which could imply they’re looking into a Stadia release.
On top of that, the developers confirmed the game will be a one-time purchase. However, they did not rule out the possibility of the game getting DLC after launch.
Speaking of the game’s launch, Black Myth: Wu Kong has no set release date yet. Game Science commented that the game would launch when it’s ready. To accomplish this, the studio is hiring more staff to work on the game.
More information about the game can be found on their website.
