During our time at the Busan Indie Connect Festival 2023, we got to try a myriad of indie games, one of which is AKARI, an isometric-view action game featuring a fox girl protagonist wielding a katana battling supernatural beings.
AKARI is an isometric-view action game akin to that of Hades and Hyper Light Drifter, featuring a white-haired kitsune woman as the playable character, wielding a pretty lengthy katana to slice through supernatural beings as they swarm in.
The combat of AKARI has a weighty methodical feel as players are always on the move and ready to evade enemy attacks. Additionally, the playable character has access to a good variety of combat abilities such as dash attacks, wide-cone sword projectiles, and multi-slash ultimate moves. The boss in the demo posed a great challenge as well, testing the players’ reactiveness with her swift attack patterns.
The game is actually a graduation capstone project from the students of Chungkang College of Cultural Industries and they developed AKARI using the Unity URP 2022 engine.
According to the developers, they expect to launch the game on Steam sometime in December of this year. If you are interested in the game, the developers have a YouTube channel showcasing AKARI and any of its updates.
