Aniplex has announced Berserk: The Golden Age Memorial Edition, a re-release of the 2012 adaptation of the iconic fantasy manga.
Airing in October, Berserk The Golden Age Memorial Edition will rebroadcast all three parts along with new scenes not featured in the original broadcast.
It should be noted that the official website doesn’t mention if the Memorial Edition would maintain the movie-trilogy format, or if the series was being recut into a TV anime, like with Gundam: The Origin which was touched up but released in episodes.
“The Golden Age, the most popular among fans, was adapted into a trilogy and released in Japan and 16 other countries from 2012-13”, the statement reads. “In 2022, 10 years after the film’s theatrical release, it will make its terrestrial debut as a TV series from October 2022 as “Berserk Golden Age Arc: MEMORIAL EDITION”
Note that this is based on translations of the quote, so it’s unclear if they mean TV series as in an episodic anime or a re-release of all three movies.
The Golden Arc is arguably the most iconic part of Berserk, featuring many of its most identifiable characters in their prime- such as Guts, Griffith and Casca.
While it technically falls under the second arc in the manga (after the Black Swordsman arc), many consider it the true start of the series since it cements the characterization of many characters going forward.
Berserk has drawn a lot of mainstream attention following the sudden passing of mangaka Kentaro Miura, with many fans sharing how the series basically influenced most of modern anime culture.
