EA has announced Battlefield Portal, the new mode for the upcoming Battlefield 2042.
The mode acts as a huge community sandbox, letting you make your own gametypes that play by the rules you want. These customizable levels will include content from across Battlefield titles, including eras like Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.
Players will be able to upload and share their own creations, engaging with other players who might have an interest in things like custom gametypes.
Rather than be released separately, Battlefield Portal will release as part of Battlefield 2042, along with its multiplayer and Hazard Zone modes.
What Is Battlefield Portal
The developers confirmed that the game won’t come with a Level Editor, so you’ll be using pre-made level assets but mainly be dealing with the rulesets you want.
One of the features they introduced was logic switches, meaning while you won’t be able to make your own maps from scratch, you will be able to customize how players interact with the game itself.
These can even be used to make asymmetrical levels, with several examples shown on stage such as battles between 2042-era soldiers vs soldiers from Battlefield 1942, as well as a mode where a single tank pilot has to fight off players controlling a horde of robots instead.
