Season 6 of Battlefield 2042, titled “Dark Creations”, is set to introduce plenty of new additions to the game, including the new map Redacted, as well as weapons, gadgets, and more.
As we get closer to Season 6 of Battlefield 2042, we had an opportunity to try out the new update prior to its launch on 10 October 2023, experiencing the new map and weapons.
Forest in Underground Laboratories
In Dark Creations, a new map named “Redacted” will come with its release. This particular map is set completely indoors, in a secret underground research facility that looks like it is out of a science fiction movie. While there are certain locations that seem like outdoor forested areas, everything is sheltered underground much like a terrarium.
Battlefield tends to have massive maps, designed to evoke the tense chaotic moment of war. This sort of map design meant some parts of the warzone could feel bland and quiet as no activities would flourish due to its size. This also means there are times when players would have to march through long distances to get to the battle.
Redacted is none of that as it encloses the shootout in a much smaller and compact map, decorated with many corridors and tight corners for surprise ambushes and close-quarter encounters. This resulted in a map with fewer dull moments and more gun firing and blood splatters.
As Redacted completely takes place indoors, no vehicles of any kind can be brought to battle. Its size also meant that the number of players would also be fewer. For instance, the Conquest Mode usually houses up to 124 players in other maps, but Redacted only allows 64 players at max. However, this is not a bad thing as the smaller-sized map means high player density for more gun-blasting action.
New Season New Guns
A new map is not the only thing Season 6 offers as 3 new firearms are also being introduced, namely the VHX-D3 Assault Rifle, the G428 Designated Marksman Rifle, and the L9CZ Semi-Auto Pistol.
VHX-D3 Assault Rifle
The VHX-D3 Assault Rifle is optimized for close to mid-range combat, a fitting new addition in this season with the new map. The new assault rifle indeed complements well with Redacted, as the map’s smaller size means most encounters will be happening at close or mid-range distances, which is the VHX-D3’s forte.
The rifle has a fast rate of fire and a stable accuracy for burst firing at close-quarters, while still being relatively easy to control. This made the VHX-D3 arguably one of my favorite new additions to the game out of the 3 new guns.
G428 Designated Marksman Rifle
On the other side of the spectrum, we have the G428 Designated Marksman Rifle, a gun with powerful penetration power and designed for long-range encounters. While the gun is not bad by any means, its role as a long-range weapon leads it to be a less favorable firearm to be used in the new map Redacted.
This is because the tight corners and many close encounters of Redacted made the G428 extremely difficult to utilize well in my experience as before you can scope in to take a shot, opponents have already started blasting you with other faster options.
That said, two precise shots to the body with the G428 is usually a takedown, thus the gun would be a powerful choice in other maps, especially in a good player’s hands.
L9CZ Pistol
Lastly, the L9CZ Pistol, is a new semi-auto sidearm with a high accuracy for close to mid-range combat, in theme with Redacted’s compact and tight corridors. While the gun is extremely good for hip firing, since it is semi-automatic, means that you are only firing one shot each time you pull the trigger, thus requiring multiple shots to take down opponents.
In order words, during close encounters, if you are not quick with your shots, it can be difficult to emerge victorious, especially against faster weapons such as assault rifles or other automatic firearms.
Dark Creations
As with any new major update, Battlefield 2042 Season 6 Dark Creations is bringing many additions to the game while freshening up the gameplay experience.
Notably, the map Redacted is a prime example of keeping things fresh with something new, focusing on close-quarters combat rather than long-distance gunfights and vehicle warfare. Sure, it is not something new for the Battlefield series, but it is something different from what 2042 had offered in the past.
If you are already an avid Battlefield fan, Season 6 Dark Creations will be offering you plenty of new content for your enjoyment, from new guns to new vehicles.
The new season is slated to be released on 10 October 2023 and EA is offering a free access period from 12 October 2023 to 16 October 2023 for players to try out Battlefield 2042.
