Gundam Evolution has just launched this week, with many players learning the hard way just how insane the Barbatos Gundam from Iron-Blooded Orphans is.

In the original anime, the Barbatos Gundam operates by a simple rule- if its pilot is angry enough, it can swing its ridiculous mace hard enough to solve most problems. This certainly seems to be the case for the Barbatos in Gundam Evolution too, as the DPS unit wages a campaign of terror on all the other mobile suits in the game.
The mobile suit’s main offensive tool is its huge Mace, which has multiple applications from a horizontal swing to a charged overhead. It’s plunging attack is also especially deadly- eliminating mobile suits outright rather than disabling them like other enemy kills would.
It’s also got one lesser-known boon- it’s tiny. Considering how mobile suits in this game seem to be reproduced to scale with each other, Iron-Blooded Orphans smaller overall MS scale makes the Barbatos practically invisible to some of the bigger mobile suits like the Sazabi.
Twitter has taken to commiserating over their troubles dealing with the Demon of the Calamity War.
“Barbatos players are on a constant endless supply of crack”, writes one SporePunch, probably after having their kneecaps blown off by a giant mace.
Meanwhile, other players have unearthed ancient wisdom at how to deal with the melee mobile suit:
Protip: to defeat a Barbatos, shoot at it until it dies. https://t.co/M93THXhkTh pic.twitter.com/BQuca1zffa

While it might be the most prolific, Barbatos is far from the only rising star in Gundam Evolution’s roster- GM Sniper II and Zaku II (Ranged) are both also having strong showings, with the former in particular being a hard counter for Barbatos.
Can't believe that the GM really is a hard counter for the Barbatos #GUNDAMEVOLUTION #GUNEVO pic.twitter.com/0svRHsEL1V

With hero shooters like Gundam Evolution, it’s always fun to see just how wild the opening days are- Overwatch was similarly terrorized by the 6Torb at launch, back when the game allowed you to hero stack.
