Bandai are reportedly testing out a Real Gunpla Battle, technology featured as far back as Gunpla Builders Beginning and more prominently in the Build Fighters series.
In the website for the upcoming Gundam Port Yokohama, one of the attractions listed is titled Road to Gunpla Battle, which will take place at Gundam Factory Yokohama as part of the Gundam Port Yokohama event running from February 19th to March 13th.
That being said, the Road to Gunpla Battle event will only start on March 6th.
“The event will be held at GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA. You can bring your own Gunpla, scan it on the spot, and enjoy the battle in the virtual game space”, the website reads. “Even if you don’t bring your own Gunpla, you can enjoy battles with the Gunpla prepared at the venue”.
While it obviously won’t be a 1:1 of how the technology works in Gundam Build Fighters, the premise of scanning your model kits into a game is something fans have been clamoring for for a while.
Since the release of Gundam Build Fighters, some fans had even made their own tabletop game- featuring rules for how to include your custom Gunpla’s various features into a character with stats.
