To commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Tamagotchi, Bandai announced the Tamagotchi Smart, which is a watch that lets users raise Tamagotchi. This announcement was done earlier today, June 17, 2021.
Taking a page off of Bandai’s own Digimon Vital Bracelet, the new Tamagotchi product lets wearers track their steps on top of telling the time like a normal watch. However, unlike the Vital Bracelet, the smartwatch has touch screen functionality, letting wearers interact with their virtual companions. Users can even talk to the watch as it appears to have voice recognition capabilities. The watch uses the Tama SmaCard, a card that lets users upload their pet into the device, similar to the Vital Bracelet’s Dim Card.
To promote the new product, Bandai even collaborated with Japanese girl group NiziU.
The Tamagotchi Smart is slated to release on November 23, 2021. Currently, the product is being sold by lottery. Customers can take part in the lottery between June 17, 2021 (Thursday) 11:00 to July 2, 2021 (Friday) 23:00 JST. Winners will be announced later in July.
To take part in the lottery, customers have to spend 7,480 yen (around 67.60 USD). Note that even customers outside of Japan can purchase the product. Currently, a limited edition white body of the product is up for lottery. Bandai plans to release Coralpink and Mintblue variants in the future.
