Larian Studios, the studio behind Baldur’s Gate 3, has said that they are developing two new games under their own IP for the future.
The information was given on a Steam community post, where the developers were discussing the future of the studio while expressing their gratitude to the fanbase.
In the post, the developers have confirmed that they would not be introducing any major new additions to the story of Baldur’s Gate 3 or its origin characters and companions. The team has also said that they would not be making any expansions or even a Baldur’s Gate 4.
The team then went on to say that the company will be taking this opportunity to develop their own IPs, and that they’re currently working on two new projects.
“As an independent studio since 1996, we value the freedom to follow our creativity wherever it leads. In this case, after six years in the Forgotten Realms and much discussion and rumination, we’ve decided to seize this opportunity to develop our own IPs,” the post read. “We’re currently working on two new projects and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store.”
Even though their focus is now on the new games, Larian Studios has said that future updates beyond the upcoming Patch 7 will continue to focus on bug fixes, performance enhancements, and stability improvements, so it’s not like Baldur’s Gate is completely abandoned by the developers.
Lastly, the developers reassured that the same sensibilities and brought Baldur’s Gate 3 to the players are still with them, driving them to create an immersive experience shaped by the player’s choices.
“It’s still early days – we’ll tell you more about those later down the line. But know that even as our focus turns to these new games, the sensibilities that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 are alive and well here at the Larian castle. We’re fueled by the very same fire in our bellies, one that drives us to create immersive experiences shaped by your choices, and we can’t wait for you to join us on this next adventure.”
