In this guide, we will be looking at all the Super Rare shipgirls that are currently available on the global server for Azur Lane. The PVE and PVP potential for each shipgirl listed here will be looked into to see who works best for each situation.
Illustrious (Aircraft Carrier)
How to obtain: Build (Special)
Whenever Illustrious uses air strikes, the Vanguard Fleet will gain shields equal to 5% (10% when max) of her HP for a period of eight seconds. By herself, Illustrious does not deal much damage due to her aircraft composition, but as a support, she is indispensable. She will keep everyone alive much longer in both PVP and PVE.
Enterprise (Aircraft Carrier)
How to obtain: Build (Special)
When using Air Strike you have a 40% (70% when maxed) chance of dealing double damage while Enterprise herself becomes invincible for eight seconds. The queen of PVE and PVP for good reason. Her damage output and survivability is second to none, with no other carrier coming close. It is a surprise she has not been nerfed yet.
Takao (Heavy Cruiser)
How to obtain: Build (Heavy)
When Takao fires her main gun, she has a 15% chance (30% when maxed) to deal double damage. When firing torpedos, she has a 15% chance (30% when maxed) to fire an additional volley of torpedos. Her low speed stats leaves Takao vulnerable to a lot of things, but when it comes to damage output, few heavy cruisers are on par.
Hood (Battleship)
How to obtain: Build (Heavy)
When Hood fires her main guns, she has a 40% (70% when maxed) to trigger an additional EX barrage and for the next eight seconds, she boosts the reload stats o f the Main Fleet by 20% (40% when maxed). That alone makes Hood a force to reckon with in PVE and PVP as she will make short work of just about anything.
Yuudachi (Destroyer)
How to obtain (6-4 boss node drop)
Poi has a 6% change of activating an ability where every time her main gun is fired, she will have her Power, Torpedo, Reload and Speed stats boosted by 20% (40% when maxed) for a period of eight seconds. If you like torpedos, Yuudachi is your go to. However, she will be outclassed fairly quickly due to the introduction of new destroyers. Furthermore, her poor survivability makes her somewhat a burden in PVP.
San Diego (Light Cruiser)
How to obtain: Build (Light/Special)
When San Diego fires her AA guns, you have a 15% chance of granting the entire fleet with 30% additional AA stats (50% when maxed). While lacking in other areas, San Diego will destroy any and all aircraft with maximum efficiency. That said, in PVE, the only time you will need a lot of AA is in Chapter 12. Not particularly useful in PVP.
Warspite (Battleship)
How to obtain: Build (Heavy), Exchange (80 Medal of Honors) as of 1 September 2018
At every 35 seconds (15 seconds when maxed), Warspite will fire two volleys at the furthest unit for 100% critical damage. When the ability is level six and above, the shells turn into Armor Piercing shells. Warspite is an alright Battleship for PVE, but her true value is in PVP as she will be able to snipe dangerous backline units such as Enterprise before they become too much of a threat.
Belfast (Light Cruiser)
How to obtain: Build (Light)
Your High Explosives ammo damage is increased 15% (25% when maxed), with ignition chance boosted 1.2% (3% when maxed). Belfast also uses a smokescreen 10 seconds after the start of the battle and every 20 seconds after that, she has a 20% chance of activating the ability again. Smokescreen increases the speed of your Vanguard Fleet by 15% (35% when maxed) while cutting air-strike damage by 15% (35% when maxed) for duration of 10 seconds. With above average stats, Belfast is one of the better Light Cruisers in the game for both PVP and PVE alike.
South Dakota (Battleship)
How to obtain: Supplies Munition Shop (20,000 Merits)
Every 30 seconds and for a duration of eight seconds, half of the damage your Main Fleet takes will be redirected to South Dakota. Upon the end of the eight seconds, South Dakota will regenerate 20% (50% when maxed) of the lost health. In addition, when she fires her main gun, there is a 15% (30% when maxed) chance that you will dish double damage.
Prinz Eugen (Heavy Cruiser)
How to obtain: Build (Heavy)
At every 20 seconds, there is a 40% chance (70% when maxed) for Prinz Eugen to create three shields for the Vanguard Fleet including herself. Each shield is capable of fending off 10 seconds for 10 seconds. Despite having below average firepower and torpedo stats, Prinz Eugen is undeniably tanky due to her high HP stats. There is not much use for a tank in PVE, but for PVP, she can prove formidable.
Eldridge (Destroyer)
How to obtain: Supplies Munition Shop (20,000 Merits) Unavailable as of 1 September 2018
When Eldridge is hit, she has a 15% chance to render the rest of the Vanguard Fleet invincible for five seconds (10 seconds when the ability is maxed out). This girl is a bit of oddball as she is really slow, losing in speed to even certain heavy cruisers. Her selling point is of course her ability to keep everyone alive for extended periods, and working in tandem with Illustrious, whose shield renders the evasion of the Vanguard Fleet, you will see the Eldridge’s ability triggered far more often. A great addition for both PVE and PVP alike.
Kaga/Akagi (Aircraft Carrier)
How to obtain: 3-4 boss node drop
The pair are fairly identical in terms of abilities and stats, and will have access to second ability when paired together. For their first ability, air-strike cooldowns are reduced 20% (50% when maxed) every battle, and when they are deployed together, Kaga and Akagi gain a 15% boost (35% when maxed) to their Aviation stat. The sister bonuses of these ships make them great additions to both PVP and PVE as they will make short work of even the strongest foes.
