Commanders will have a ton of new features to play with in the Azur Lane Operation Siren update! The massive update introduces an entirely new game mode. According to the English Twitter account for Azur Lane, rewards from Operation Siren can be used to upgrade existing gear and even unlock a new type of shipgirl—META characters.
Upon completion of Operation Siren’s story mode, an entirely new free roam mode will be unlocked. Unlike the main story mode, Operation Siren’s free roam mode allows Commanders to sortie up to 4 fleets simultaneously on a large map. Exploring the map would grant rewards which reset each month. In addition, ammo is unnecessary for this mode, allowing fleets to engage in continuous battles without damage penalty. Defeated ships can also revive after each fight.
What sets apart Operation Siren even further from normal maps is the removal of oil cost. As a result, this encourages players to use their stronger, higher rarity ships. Instead of oil, Operation Siren will consume AP. This new resource replenishes over time and can be bought with oil.
However, the most exciting feature definitely has to be this:
Hiryuu META is the first META character that is obtainable for a limited time between 12/22 – 3/18/2021. Hiryuu META is an alternate, more futuristic version of the existing Hiryuu. These alternate characters are known as Ashes characters, seen previously with the likes of Enterprise and Takao. Since Operation Siren is a permanent addition to the game, it is likely that after Hiryuu META’s limited run, we can expect to see more Ashes characters available in the future.
To unlock Hiryuu META, players will have to collect Ashes Coordinates within Operation Siren. Spend Ashes Coordinates to fight Hiryuu META in Ashes Showdown. Similar to PR ships, the materials to enhance and limit break her are obtainable within Operation Siren.
Besides Hiryuu META, Commanders will also have access to the Gear Lab. Existing gear is upgradable via the Gear Lab by consuming materials earned in Operation Siren.
Guilds will also have a more prominent place after this update, thanks to the addition of Guild 2.0. Guilds can now increase their roster size, coin and oil storage cap, warehouse slots and even earn cat box purchase discounts. Members can also partake in operations which are initiated by the Guild Leader.
The final new gameplay change in this update is the Carrier Detection System. Aircraft Carriers will have a Detection System gauge, which, when empty, allows them to deal additional damage. Once the gauge is full, the Carrier will no longer have the bonus damage.
Azur Lane Operation Siren tops up with a bunch of smaller limited time events, brand new Christmas skins and several reruns of past Christmas Skins. Stay up to date with the Azur Lane EN Twitter account as they provide new details during the maintenance period.
