With the Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection fast approaching its release date on 1st of June 2023, additional information has been revealed in regards to the story and classes that appear in Etrian Odyssey III HD, one of the three titles that appear in the collection.
For those unfamiliar, Etrian Odyssey is a 3D dungeon-crawling RPG series which has players selecting five adventurers from a variety of classes and have them combining their skills as they explore the world looking for treasure.
In terms of story the game is said to take place, “south of the great continents, beyond the sea, lies the ocean city of Armoroad. Legend has it that part of the city sunk without warning a century ago to the bottom of the ocean, taking with it untold technology that is now lost to mankind. Intrigued by the legend, many explorers gathered in Armoroad, all hoping to challenge the undersea labyrinth. But so far, none have found the fabled sunken city. Set sail to Armoroad to navigate the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, find the drowned city, and win fortune and glory! Find unprecedented ruins and traverse the undersea labyrinth to secure wealth and fame!”
Not only that, In Etrian Odyssey III HD, classes get new portraits for each class which totals up to five portraits per class. These classes are also separated based on their general role during battles which are:
Front-Line Classes
- Gladiator (offensive type)
- Buccaneer (combo attacker type)
- Shogun (offensive/support type)
- Yggdroid (balanced offensive type)
Versatile Classes
- Sovereign (support type)
- Hoplite (defensive type)
- Ninja (offensive/specialist type)
- Monk (healer type)
Back-Line Classes
- Zodiac (elemental type)
- Wildling (summoner type)
- Arbalist (offensive type)
- Farmer (explorer type)
Aside from the classes mentioned above, Etrian Odyssey III HD also has subclasses which will be unlocked once a certain part of the story is cleared. These subclasses grant the character a second set of skills and only one subclass can be assigned to each class. Through this you will need to mix and match your party to best suit your playstyle and tactics.
In terms of skills, each class can obtain the following skills other than their main skills:
Common Skills:
Seven skills that can be acquired by any class. They mostly consist of raising maximum HP and TP, earning experience without being in a party, or giving boosts outside of battle. These skills have no prerequisites and can be obtained as soon as you have the required skill points.
Limit Skills:
Skills that can be acquired after obtaining a special item. These skills can be used once the Limit Gauge has been maxed out from performing actions in battle. Each skill can be equipped to a number of adventurers and their effects range from powerful attacks to recovery and support.
Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection will be available for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on the 1st of June 2023. For further information you may refer to their website.
