Atlus’ week-long countdown has ended with the reveal of Soul Hackers 2, a sequel to the 1997 RPG Shin Megami Tensei Soul Hackers. The game will be coming out on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The game will release on August 26th in international markets.
Check out the announcement trailer below:
Soul Hackers 2 has a very different aesthetic from the cyberpunk original although that may just be due to the original being inspired by 90s anime while this takes more from the sleeker, cleaner look of modern anime.
Within the trailer, we can already see many references to the original Soul Hackers most notably an updated version of the GUMP or Gun COMP that is used to summon demons. References to the name ‘Phantom Society’, a villainous group in the original game can also be heard.
This will be the first new entry in the Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner subseries since Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha 2 back in 2009. The Devil Summoner series differs from the mainline Shin Megami Tensei series in that it doesn’t take place in a post-apocalyptic setting. Instead, the games tend to be occult thrillers, playing as a detective or hacker solving supernatural mysteries involving demons.
The game will have a limited edition version that will come with a cosplay Jack Frost figurine and a CD collection of music from the game. It’s also confirmed that there will be Persona 5 costumes as a pre-order bonus.
The game will be released in Japan on August 25th and outside Japan on August 26th for International markets.
The game will be available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. This will be the first Shin Megami Tensei game released for Xbox systems since Shin Megami Tensei Nine in 2002 on the original Xbox.
