ASUS recently launches their newest ZenFone 4 series smartphones – ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro, ZenFone 4 Selfie and ZenFone 4 Max Pro. We are lucky to get our hands on one of the new product, ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro so here is our review on it!
What is in the box
We got a special edition package consisting a small Gong Yoo (the official endorser for Zenfone 4 series) portrait at the middle, a pair of earphones on the left, the charger and USB cable on the right while the phone package is placed inside the drawer. The phone package comes with the phone itself, a phone cover and a user guide.
The model we get is in gorgeous Sunlight Gold featuring a seamless and elegant metal unibody with a visually frameless 2.5D Gorilla Glass screen. A beautiful, diamond-cut chamfer finished off the metal unibody, while the rear camera is engraved at the back neatly. The fingerprint scanner is no longer placed at the back (like ASUS previously did), it is now in the front, right below the display. The phone is thin with only 6.85mm in thickness.

Display and Camera
The phone has a 5.5-inches full HD AMOLED display, just nice for gaming, looks vibrant too. The biggest selling point of ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro is its selfie (and wefie) function, so we will be emphasising more on its camera.
With the 24 MP DuoPixel camera technology, you can capture gorgeous and vivid shot of you anywhere. The front camera performs great under low light condition, there is also a 120° wide-angle camera so you could fit more people and scenery into the frame (have fun taking wefies!). The Portrait Mode is available to make you stand out from the background too.
The beauty mode is one of the best features of the phone since selfie is our new trend now and everyone wants to take a beautiful selfie (especially the girls). A wide variety of beauty mode options such as changing skin tone or softening your skin is originally coming with the phone. You can even enhance your eyes or thin up your cheeks! Additionally, there is a Selfie Master app pre-installed on the phone, allowing you to go live on social media (Youtube, Facebook, Instagram) or shoot a video with the beauty filter.
Editor’s note: DuoPixel doesn’t activate on wide-angle and beauty mode.
For the rear camera, it features a 16MP camera and SuperPixel Engine, enabling you to capture stunning and detailed pictures. You can also record videos up to 4K UHD. For those who are facing hand shaking issue while shooting selfie videos, you don’t need to worry about it anymore as ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro features an electronic image stabilization (EIS) technology.
Performance and Battery Life
ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro runs a powerful Snapdragon 625 Octa-core Processor and 4GB RAM, so handling demanding apps and gaming would not be a problem (no lagging so far). It comes with a 3000mAh battery (weaker than most of the mid-range phone now) but the battery doesn’t run out quickly as you think. It supports fast changing too. Below shows the percentage of battery used after one hour of non-stop gaming:
I played Honor of Kings (or King of Honor, 王者荣耀) for one hour continuously and it only used up 16% of the battery. By this, I would say that at least 6 hours of gaming is possible with ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro. The phone has an internal storage of 64GB which could fit tons of mobile game and selfies but if you feel that is not enough, feel free to add a microSD card to it.
The phone also uses ASUS ZenUI 4.0 with a few useful features that are worth to mention, such as the auto face tagging (Galley), Page Marker (bookmark web pages easily) and Safeguard (automates communications in emergencies).
Other than that, the Zen UI comes with a handy app “Game Genie” for the mobile gamers. The floating toolbar appears at the side of the screen whenever you open a game and you can use it to record or live stream your moves on the social media (Youtube or Twitch). You can perform in-game search and of course boost your device’s performance with it too.
Conclusion
Well, ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro lives up to its name “Selfie Pro”. In the aspect of gaming, ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro is not really a good choice in the market now but in the aspect of selfie-ing, it is one of best choice you can make.
ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro is priced at RM1, 799.00 (around 428 USD) in Deepsea Black, Sunlight Gold and Rouge Red. For more information, you can visit their official website.
