The latest Vivobook to come from ASUS, the Vivobook 15X OLED is a top-end premium laptop that offers a sleek, durable design, a longer battery life, and of course, a crystal clear 120Hz OLED immersive display screen.
While it may be on the pricey side, the Vivobook 15X OLED is a great all-around laptop. It does well as a work laptop, creating content and especially for watching videos and movies, and while it’s not as well suited for gaming but it can even pull that off to an extent.
Design
ASUS Vivobook 15X OLED has a more minimalist design with a Quiet Blue color and a matte finish. This makes the outer shell sleek and study, as well as not leaving any fingerprints. It has an overall simple look that is suitable for usage in corporate environments and public places.
The most interesting part is that the lid of the laptop can open up to 1800 degrees. The hinge is pretty tight but that’s probably for the best considering how wide it opens. The point is this seems to be to allow you to get a better range of angles with the camera. As always, the webcam is above the screen with 720p HD. It also comes with a privacy shutter which is a nice addition so you know that the FBI isn’t spying on you.
In terms of I/O ports. On the left side, you have 1x USB 2.0 Type-A. While on the right side have 1x DC-in, 1x HDMI 1.4, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, and 1x 3.5mm Combo Audio Jack. It’s a good selection that should keep most people satisfied without multiple cables having to share a port at one time.
Display
ASUS Vivobook 15X OLED comes with an OLED display and covers the full 100% DCI-P3 color gamut on top of Pantone validation. Besides that, it also has VESA HDR True Black 500 certification for a beautifully deep black.
The resolution of the laptop is 2.8K (2880 x 1620) and the size of the screen is 15.6 inches. Even though it’s not a dedicated gaming computer, it has a 120Hz refresh rate and 0.2ms response time. So the display is perfect for productivity, and creative work.
Once you open the lid of the laptop, you actually get surprised by the display color because it looks gorgeous. I was just impressed by just how vibrant it was with wonderfully detailed colors. When watching some anime and films on the laptop, I noticed just how much the colors popped on the display, really enhancing the experience.
But I have to give credit to ASUS for fitting this amazing screen to a laptop, at this price. The screen even includes TÜV Rheinland low blue-light certification to ensure eye comfort during long viewing sessions. It’s a great premium screen.
Keyboard & Touchpad
The laptop features a full-sized keyboard with a number pad and a backlit light. From my experience of typing using this keyboard, it felt good and easy to adapt to with the size of the keys being big and well distance from one another.
Moving on to the touchpad, it’s wide and gives a lot of room for you to use comfortably. It also comes with a fingerprint reader at the top right corner. For touchpad performance, it’s perfectly standard, not exceptional but completely functional and good for daily use.
Performance & Benchmark
ASUS Vivobook 15X OLED is powered by AMD Ryzen 5 5600H with AMD Radeon integrated graphic card. RAM that comes with the laptop is 8GB only, but in case you want to upgrade, there is an extra slot that supports DDR4 SO-DIMM.
For storage, they included an ultrafast 512GB PCIe 3.0 SSD which is the fastest SSD you can get right now. With this storage, you can browse, transfer and many more workloads also don’t have enough to worry about.
In terms of performance, the laptop is enough for photo and video editing work and even light gaming sessions. Here is the benchmark:
- 3DMark – 6821
- PC Mark 10 – 5006
Gaming Experience
While it is not intended for gaming, it’s still able to play games like Valorant, Gundam Evolution, and Genshin Impact. That being said, this laptop doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card and a limited amount of RAM, so it was hard to play many AAA games.
The games I did play used the lowest setting as putting the games any higher resulted in something that looked more like a high quality slideshow than a video game.
Valorant – I tried to play on high settings but it didn’t even reach 30 FPS in-game. When switched to the lower settings, however, the game was much smoother with no real issues. It ran at a far lower resolution but hey, it worked and it honestly didn’t look that bad.
Gundam Evolution – This time I started with the lowest setting and surprisingly, it managed to run at 50-60 FPS without any large drops. Don’t change it back to top settings though. Gundams weren’t made to move at 10fps.
Genshin impact – Even though I got around 20-40 FPS in-game, it felt relatively smooth and I didn’t have a problem in terms of gameplay or even visuals. Wandering around Sumeru felt as lively as ever.
Battery life
The battery that comes with this laptop is 70WHr which is an incredibly strong battery that can last for a long time. tried watching youtube and some streamed TV series for two hours straight while the battery was at 100%. When I checked again after the two hours past, the battery was only at 75%. Chances are certain activities could drain it more, but still, that’s an impressive amount of time for a laptop battery.
In total, the laptop can last around 6-8, which is higher than the average 3-4 hours that most laptops can handle. It’s a big improvement that is useful; for those that may not always have ready access to a charging port or don’t want to bring a cable with them everywhere.
Audio
As for its audio system, it is powered by ASUS SonicMaster, a combination of hardware, software, and audio tuning. The laptop’s amplifiers, large speakers, and resonance chambers, paired with professional-grade audio code and signal processing and tuning, can help you achieve truly immersive sound.
While watching youtube and anime with full blast volume, it was loud yet clear. Even at full blast, there was no popping or crackling from the speakers which shows a great amount of quality. Between the visuals and audio, the laptop can make for a great little cinema setup.
Closing Thoughts
With the combination of the durable lightweight design and OLED screen display, the Vivobook 15X OLED is a good premium laptop for working, leisure, and content creation. It has a good camera, it’s easy to handle, and has great visual and sound quality. It’s not the best for gaming but it can still manage most games at a lower resolution but honestly, this laptop is made more for general use than gaming so I can’t fault it too much for this.
Overall, if you’re looking for a good premium laptop that can make general life more convenient and comfortable, the Vivobook 15X OLED and the shining glow of its screen is a bright beacon that makes for a good choice.
