ASUS ROG Malaysia announces new ROG Laptops

ASUS ROG Malaysia has announced two new ROG laptops, the Zephyrus S (GX531) and 17.3″ Strix SCAR II (GL704) today. Both new laptops make landmarks in different categories respectively.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus S (GX531)

The Zephyrus S makes its mark as the thinnest laptop in the world at a mere 14.95~15.75mm thin. This makes it 12% slimmer than the original Zephyrus (GX501). Despite being so thin, the Zephyrus S still packs a lot of heat, bringing top notch specifications along with it. The laptop runs on the latest Intel Core-i7 8750H and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, ideal for high end gaming.

The super-narrow bezels of the Zephyrus S manages to squeeze in a 15.6-inch display into the 14.2-inch chassis. The display has a 144Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time, enabling smooth gameplay with blur-free graphics. Furthermore, the all-metal chassis balances both weight and strength. Made from a mix of aluminium and magnesium alloys, the Zephyrus S meets military grade standards for jolts and vibrations. Combined with a sleek design, the combination results in a tough yet cool laptop.

Lastly, the Zephyrus S features the Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) which ensures cooling for optimum levels of performance from all components. The AAS is a design and engineering hallmark of the Zephyrus series. A special vent opens underneath the chassis when the laptop’s lid is opened to draw in more cool air. Within the chassis, the Zephyrus S contains 5 heat pipes to draw away heat from the CPU and GPU. This allows the laptop to work at optimal levels during long usage.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR II (GL704)

The GL704 launches as the most compact 17 inch gaming laptop. Its super thin bezels allow the 17.3-inch display to fit into the 15.7-inch chassis. This makes it the first in its class to be less than 400mm wide. Similar to the Zephyrus S, the new Strix SCAR II also has a display with 144Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time. These specifications provide high quality display when gaming.

From an external look, the Strix SCAR II is designed with FPS gaming in mind, with contrasting Kevlar and camouflage textures. The laptop’s keyboard has a desktop-layout, with a wider space bar and separated blocks of function keys. The keyboard also incorporates the Overstroke technology, providing faster response.

In addition to the Intel Core-i7 8750H and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, the Strix SCAR II comes equipped with other features for a great gaming experience. It comes with 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi for download speeds as fast as a wired connection. Furthermore, it also comes with a speedy M.2 NVMe SSD as well as the optional 1TB solid state hybrid drive (SSHD). The Strix SCAR II contains 3 heatsinks and two fans. One heat sink handles the GPU while the remaining 2 shares the workload among other components.

Lastly, ASUS has implemented the Armory Crate, a unified control centre, into the Strix SCAR II. It allows users to control all settings and lighting from one area. Furthermore, the Armory Crate provides 5 system profiles, each with their own acoustic and performance targets. Users can change them on the fly with FN+F5.

The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR II (GL704) will also be available in Malaysia at RM7,599 which is cheaper than the Zephyrus S.

ROG Collection T-shirts and Ranger Backpack series

In addition to the new laptops, ASUS ROG Malaysia has also announced their new ROG Collection, a new apparel line designed for ROG fans and gamers. At the moment, the Collection only include T-shirts of 2 distinctive designs: Lifestyle and Mechanic. Both T-shirts are priced at RM109. More designs will come in the near future.

On the other hand, the company has also announced their ROG Ranger Backpack series. The backpacks offer a unique and stylish travel accessory for gamers. Transporting gaming gear has become easier and more comfortable. The backpacks feature ergonomic shoulder straps and ventilated back-padding for comfortable all day use. The Ranger Backpack series comes in 3 variants: The 2-in-1 variant (RM499), BP2500 variant (RM279) and BP1500 (RM159).
