PlayStation has announced Arcadegeddon, a stylish looking shooter that is now in Early Access on the PS5. Its full release will be sometime in 2022.
The game has you playing with groups of up to 4, as you fight off hordes of enemies to save an old arcade.
You’ll have plenty of different biomes to explore, all with their own challenges to face with what the game describes as “dynamic hordes”. According to developers IllFonic, you’ll have three of these biomes to explore through the game’s Early Access release.
Similarly, you’ll also be able to challenge your teammates mid-run for a chance at bonus loot. They haven’t explained how exactly this will work, such as whether the challenge starts any time you try to shoot your teammates or if you’ll face in-game events that require PvP.
Arcadegeddon falls more into the category of a looter shooter, as you’ll be exploring all the game’s varied biomes and stages looking for chests, or picking better guns off of the corpses of enemies.
You’ll also have a pretty interesting suite of options, as the trailer shows you doing things like sliding as well switching out your guns for melee weapons, meaning more brazen players are free to just jump straight into the thick of it and start swinging.
The game has a strong hip hop aesthetic, although all of the characters are presented as cubic blue people. Aside from the game’s guns, you’ll also be able to get new gear for your avatar, customizing your look to make a character that’s wholly your own.
