Returning to Tropicana Gardens Mall, Anime Fest+ 2024 will once again bring a plethora of activities, events, and performances to fill your weekend.
The Anime, Comic, and Games (ACG) convention will run from 26 April to 28 April 2024 and is organized by Comic Fiesta, the team behind Malaysia’s largest ACG event of the same name every December. With the convention just around the corner, here’s some things to keep an eye out for in Anime Fest+.
Serious Work With Cosplay
True to the convention format, cosplayers will once again be able to flex their muscles (and outfits) on the big stage and stand a chance to win prizes up to RM500 and free tickets to Comic Fiesta 2024 at the end of the year.
This time around, there will be 2 categories for cosplay, those being the Pose-Off Cosplay Competition and the One-True-Pair (OTP) Duo Cosplay Competition. The latter this year comes with a twist as cosplayers will be expected to perform a skit on stage together and will be judged based on their performance.
The judges this year feature a star-studded lineup of professional cosplayers, with Yjj and Mak for the Pose-Off competition and Rikka and Thames Malerose judging the OTP contest.
Vtubers Up Close
The ACG culture is help up by its celebrities just as much as its products. This year’s Anime Fest+ especially features some big names in the industry.
Of course, no modern anime convention is complete without vtubers, and Anime Fest+ is no exception. hololive fans will get the chance to meet some of their favorite livers in person.
Gavis Bettel and Machina X Flayon from HOLOSTARS English -TEMPUS- will make a appearance on Saturday while Koseki Bijou from hololive English -Advent-, and Airani Iofifteen from hololive Indonesia will take the stage together on Sunday.
For those looking for a more savoury experience, chef vtuber OniGiri will also be hosting an exclusive meet and greet session on Day 3. Who knows, if you’re lucky, she might even cook up something interesting!
Enough Stars to Make a Constellation
What’s an ACG event without some musical performances? To cap off the weekend of Anime Fest+, tune into a variety of performances by the shining lineup of special guests and performers.
The biggest stars of the convention undoubtedly go to sajou no hana as the trio will be performing live on Day 2. As a bonus, official sajou no hana merchandise will be made available to purchase on site, including arcyllic keychains, towels and rubber wrist straps.
This event is not done just yet with the guests from our neighboring country, as Indonesian music composer djalto will be featured as a special guest at Anime Fest+. Known for her interpretations of Japanese and anime songs, covered in Bahasa Indonesia, she will be up playing some sick beats on both Day 2 and Day 3.
Other guests that will be making an apperance include artist puddleart, ACG dance group Project Coser and cosplayers Ristelle, Ryukku-K and Ellemonade.
Volleyball!!
For fans of the Haikyu!! series, keep an eye out this Anime Fest+, because for the first time ever, you can get your favorite volleyball boys at its official pop-up shop this weekend. Located at Booth A67, get ready to buy all sorts of official merchandise, including some items will are slated to officially debut in Hong Kong.
Pre-orders and early bird tickets for Anime Fest+ have already been sold out, but don’t fret. Daily tickets can still be bought on site throughout the convention period. It may not be Comic Fiesta, but that doesn’t mean that it is any less outstanding. And besides, who will ever say no to an early-year anime convention?
