Expect new video game conspiracy theories to rise now that a horror film featuring Animal Crossing: New Horizons is in the works.
Don’t Peek, a 6 minute 46 second Animal Crossing horror short film is getting the feature film treatment. Filmmaker Julian Terry directed, wrote and even edited the horror short himself. NoaGraffics.com helped to provide additional VFX. Terry uploaded Don’t Peek on YouTube back in October 2020. You can watch the short film here:
Shot and filmed entirely in one bedroom (two, if you include the one in-game) it features a woman who experiences unsettling occurrences in real life as she plays Animal Crossing: New Horizons on her Nintendo Switch.
Last week, Don’t Peek aired during the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival which took place online. Russian film director Timur Bekmambetov and his production company Bazelevs will be turning the film into a full-length feature film. Bekmambetov is best known for directing Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman action film Wanted. His other notable works include Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Hardcore Henry.
Currently, Majd Nassif will produce the feature-length horror film while Pavel Bozhkov. It is unclear if Bekmambetov, who is more renowned for his action films, will direct the movie.
