Anicon, an anime and hobby convention happening in Vivacity Megamall in Kuching Sarawak Malaysia has stated that it will not allow guests to wear ahegao hoodies.
This was revealed in a Facebook post by the organizers of the event Animaxtoys.
“AXT is an OPEN and FRIENDLY EVENT for all ages. That doesn’t mean it’s just an anime event, it’s also consists of another hobby as well. Therefore, to avoid anything that makes ACG or HOBBY Event (Anicon) feel unsafe for all ages, OUR Team and VIVACITY Management have agreed to BANNED any of these outfits (ahegao hoodies) or even “TOO MUCH REVEALING” Cosplay. Your Cooperation is much appreciated. Let’s make ACG Great again guys! And This time let’s make it big so that the Public can accept that ACG Related or Hobby related are very Healthy Hobby.”
Now my personal belief is that you should let people wear whatever they want at cons as long as it’s within reason but I think it’s fair to say that not everyone attending wants to see pages of actual hentai being displayed, or rather worn, out in public. As such, I’d say that this precaution is within reason.
If you have any further questions about the dress rules of Anicon, the team has been replying to users’ questions in their comment section, so it would be best to send them a message.
Anicon will be held from the 25th to 27th of March 2022 from 10:00 to 21:30 in the East Atrium of Vivacity Megamall in Kuching Sarawak. The event promises a chance for fans of anime and other hobbies to get together and buy merch, cosplay, sell art and generally have fun.
For those in Peninsular Malaysia that wish to attend an anime con, Season4Otaku is being held on the same weekend of the 26th and 27th of March in Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya Selangor.
