Amazon has greenlit a TV series based on the Tomb Raider games.
Amazon & MGM Studios Lead Jen Salke revealed that the Tomb Raider TV series will be produced and directed by British actress, screenwriter and producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
It’s being produced by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, and will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all,” said Waller-Bridge.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon has been planning to turn the video game series into a multimedia franchise akin to the Marvel franchise since early this year, with movies and TV series sharing a connected canon with the games.
Amazon also announced last year that the next Tomb Raider game will be published by the company.
No estimated time frame has been given for the production or release of the TV series yet, as it can be assumed that the project is still in the early stages.
