Japanese gymnast Kohei Uchimura apparently racked up a ridiculously expensive Pokémon GO bill of 500,000 yen (about RM 20,000) after heading to Rio on July 20. The Olympic champion said he got addicted playing the game while he was training for Rio in San Paulo, resulting in a huge amount to pay for data roaming services.
His teammate Kenzo Shirai said “He looked dead at the team meal that day.” Luckily for Uchimura, his carrier let him off from having to pay the entire bill after pleading with his carrier. In turn they agreed to charge him a flat rate of around RM 120 per day and waive the extra cost.
“I really got lucky,” Uchimura told Kyodo News, a Tokyo based news company. You bet.
I guess this serves as a lesson: don’t ever use data roaming to play Pokémon GO. Or use data roaming at all in that matter. Get a local sim card, makes life much more easier.
