All-girls DOTA 2 team Grills Gaming has taken the gold medal at the Global Esports Games 2023 (GEG 2023), nabbing a huge victory for Malaysia at the event in Riyadh.
In a post on Facebook, they thanked their coach and partners for taking the daring win in the Women’s DOTA 2 category.
“We wanna thank our amazing coach WinteR for bringing us together as a team in the past few months, even though you can’t be here with us due to ESL you’re still the best coach ever hands down. And female teams are doubly hard to coach so you get double the credit”, the post reads.
“Our therapy sessions with Mind Gap were also really helpful in grounding everybody, resolving issues & strengthening our team bonds”, it continues.
“And to all our friends, you know who you are, who took the time & effort to help us, be it in scrims, in providing analysis, in sharing feedback or advice, thank you guys from the bottom of our heart”.
The Grills Gaming team also shouted out their own humble beginnings, and thanked the local support for their success at GEG 2023.
“For a part-time, non-sponsored, zero-budget team to have gotten this far, many many kind souls have played a part in helping us get here today. We are full of gratitude, and glad we did not disappoint everyone!”, they said.
Grills Gaming has had an extremely successful esports career, having previously taken the gold in the Commonwealth Esports Championships in August as well as taking the Silver in last year’s GEG.
Malaysia had a really good run at GEG 2023, having won one gold (Women’s DOTA 2) and two silver medals (DOTA 2, Street Fighter 6) at the event, even being named Grand Champions.
