AirAsia Vtuber Aozora Kurumi has announced her graduation from Project Kavvaii, according to their official Twitter today.
In a statement, they’ve said that Aozora Kurumi will have a graduation stream on August 7th, 2022, and her channel will stop accepting memberships from August 9th.
“ I’m leaving but not gone.. I will definitely see you guys around after my graduation!! (Might lurk & booli my homies on their streams ) & I’m sure this is shocking to a lot of you guys but let’s spend our last month together with a blast!”, she says in a tweet.
Kurumi herself will be having a Q&A stream tonight at 8pm GMT+8 to address fan questions about her departure from the project.
“We are proud of what Kurumi has achieved in over one year as Project Kavvaii’s first Vtuber”, the statement reads. “It has been a genuine thrill to see her grow as a streamer and a performer, nurturing a healthy community and building friendships beyond borders”.
Fans worried about losing her previous content won’t need to worry, since Project Kavvaii has said her channel will remain up as “part of the airasia ecosystem”.
This comes after a recent hiatus by the Vtuber, though neither party has revealed exactly what spurred the decision for her graduation.
Project Kavvaii is AirAsia’s Vtuber label, and, counting Kurumi, currently totals three Vtubers.
Alongside MyHoloTV, it is a big force for pulling Vtuber talent from the SEA Region, which would otherwise be dominated by American and Japanese talents.
Kurumi herself was one of the first major corporate Vtubers, that is, representing a non Vtuber brand such as Netflix’s Enko-Chan.
