Frontier Developments has announced a new upcoming Warhammer RTS with the reveal of Age of Sigmar : Realms of Ruin.
In a new trailer, they revealed the game takes place in the Dawnbringer Crusade- the setting of the current edition of the Age of Sigmar tabletop game.
The game will release on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, while also getting a console release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin focuses on the Stormcast Eternals- who have to defend their settlement from the Orruk Kruleboyz.
The game will feature four playable factions at launch, though aside from the Stormcast Eternals the rest have yet to be officially announced.
That being said, betas are also planned as well as a gameplay reveal in June.
It should be noted that the game will also feature cross-platform gameplay, with both 1v1 and 2v2 modes.
Despite launching on console, Frontier Developments promises smooth gameplay even on controllers:
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin has been developed simultaneously for both console and PC. Players using a controller will experience DirectStep™, an innovative new real-time strategy interface enabling tactical immediacy in the heat of battle. Using the analogue sticks and a few simple button presses, players can quickly cycle through their squads, issue orders and engage the enemy. This system gives Xbox and PlayStation® users the flexibility and responsiveness of mouse and keyboard controls, all from a control input they’re comfortable with. In addition, PC players will be able to enjoy a classic mouse and keyboard control scheme that’s designed to feel familiar to RTS veterans.
This marks the second console release of an Age of Sigmar game, with most non-40K Warhammer games instead focusing on Warhammer Fantasy, such as the Total War series.
The game was announced at the Warhammer Skulls livestream, featured alongside other titles like Warhammer 40K: Boltgun as well as Rogue Trader.
