In a Tweet, the organizers announced that AFAID would be returning to Indonesian shores after more than five years away.
“Hello again, Indonesia! We are finally back! See you from 3rd to 5th May 2024 at Jakarta Convention Center!”, the tweet reads.
Not much else is known about the upcoming AFAID 2024- all we’ve seen so far is a short teaser featuring footage from past events.
It’s not like the five year hiatus was entirely intentional- the event was originally set to return in 2020, although the global lockdown thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic made short work of those plans.
The announcement comes as a part of AFA 2023– the main Singapore event that’s currently going on this weekend, featuring multiple events such as stage panels with cosplayers like Iori Moe as well as artist/vtuber Shigure Ui.
That isn’t the only event by the organizers this year, however, as their circuit also included the AFA Creators Superfest in July.
Jakarta is a bit of a cultural hotspot when it comes to anime conventions- earlier this year also saw the island selected as the host for the Indonesia leg of HoYoFest 2023, featuring huge crowds come to check out games like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail.
