It’s not every day you have one of the biggest names in cosplay on your stage, as part of the AFA Day Stage events included a QnA panel with none other than Iori Moe herself, the official ambassador for Anime Festival Asia 2023.
Dressed in a cute outfit themed after a succubus, she received a hearty welcome as she walked on stage – even though she streams in Japanese, Iori Moe’s fans span the globe.
“I think that social media is connected to many people in the world”, she says. “Through my live streaming activities and all that through Twitch, I am now able to communicate with my overseas fans. I’m really grateful about that”.
Unsurprisingly, someone of Iori Moe’s stature wears many hats- Cosplayer, radio personality, Streamer, gravure idol. Despite the hectic responsibilities, she says she enjoys the challenges of her life.
“I haven’t really faced any challenges or any difficulties having to juggle different roles concurrently, because, you know, each one of them, I am actually having fun with it. I enjoy doing what I am doing”, she says. “But for radio, for my radio show, which is actually on air every Tuesday from 10pm, I have actually never missed an on-air show for two consecutive years”.
That being said, taking care of your health is still a priority. When asked about what steps she takes to keep herself in shape, she stressed the importance of staying hydrated.
“For radio, my voice is very important to actually speak”, she says. “So, I make sure that my throat never gets dry. So, I drink a lot. And Japan is actually entering the winter season right now. And the humidity is very, very low. The air is very dry”.
This was Iori Moe’s first trip to AFA, but she mentioned that the event’s reputation precedes it- the event’s lineup of Japanese cosplayers every year had caught her eye.
While asking for recommendations on booth to visit, as if on cue, an audience member urged her to go to the Tenga booth prompting a burst of laughter.
Iori mentions that though she hasn’t had much time to explore this time, she’d actually been to Singapore before six years prior- even highlighting her love for local food.
“And that time, I actually tried the Singapore Laksa and Milo. I also had a chance to see the Merlion that time”, she says.
From that trip, she also talked about her love for local snack Irvin’s Salted Egg Fish Skin: apparently, on her flight back she’d filled her suitcase with them too.
Of course, she also made sure to shout out her favorite attractions in Singapore too:
“One of the staff actually took me to the Night Safari, and it was very, very fun. I had a lot of fun there”, she says. “The animals were all sleeping and I actually took the tram and, you know, toured around the Night Safari, and I think that’s a very good memory that I have of my previous visit”.
